Product overview

DC-DC buck (step-down) converter for generating 12V DC from the 36V supply in the How To Mechatronics CNC control box. The 12V circuit is used for the enclosure cooling fan and the optocoupler input circuitry.

Required for this build

  • Nominal input: 36V DC
  • Output: regulated 12V DC
  • Output-current class: 3A

Important: the exact converter module must tolerate the maximum real power-supply voltage and electrical transients with suitable margin. Some commonly advertised LM2596 modules have a 40V maximum input rating and should not automatically be considered suitable at a 36V nominal input. Set and verify output voltage before attaching the 12V load.
